Countries around the world are implementing a more accurateway of tracking aircraft. Called Automatic DependentSurveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B), the technology willeventually replace radar as the primary surveillance method for Air Traffic Control (ATC) monitoring and separation of aircraftworldwide.
The United States and other countries have publishedregulations mandating ADS-B on aircraft operating in theirregions according to differing schedules. Some countries thatdon’t yet require the equipment have designated specialroutes and airspace to benefit those who voluntarily equip.
